The first Twitter lecture took place on Tuesday, third of August. It filled students with excitement in learning in an innovative way while also overwhelmed in not knowing what the expectation will be. It had taken our Media Studies class beyond our imagination. We were thrilled by this wonderful experience.
The lecture headed by Miss Marian Pike, focused on the five proposed laws which will change the media landscape and media freedom in South Africa. The topics dealt with were the proposed Media Tribunal, the Protection of Information bill, ICASA Amendment bill, Consumers Protection Act and lastly the Film and Publications Amendment Act.
In preparation for the Twitter lesson, we were instructed by our lecturer to research these topics. This gave the students the opportunity to understand the topics and gain a broader vision of the sad situation South Africa faced. It also enables us to prepare and make informed comments on each specific bill. Researching the five topics gave students greater insight to what the lecture discussed and they could instantly learn from Miss Marian Pike, as they understood what she discussed.
We learnt so much through this excellent exercise, one that will stay in my memory for a very long time. The lecture was well presented, and I congratulate Miss Pike for taking us to new heights. Well done Miss Pike, I salute you!
This was an exciting new method of teaching! It was effective and very enjoyable. I leant alot that I was not aware of.
