I find it extremely intriguing that students have to pay high fees.
I do not blame any institution as we as students do understand that we are paying for recourses to improve learning environments. It is difficult to grasp the term students.
Students are people focussing on studying and developing their future, to one day earn a stable income to provide for their lives. At this point students find themselves having a minimal income and needing to use their only funds on exorbitant prices of text books and various other costs such as travelling, stationary and food. Besides studying and keeping up with academic standards, students have to keep up with inflationary forces incurred on them. When the annual interest rate goes up, workers also receive a percentage to improve their living standards. Student’s living standards remain the same, while cost increases do not alleviate their difficulties. Many institutions host events, expecting students to place their input financially. These institutions do not realise that students do not work for them as internal stakeholders.
Many external organisations have student discounts and student parties to satisfy the needs of student life. That is admirable for me, as on our very own campuses we are expected to pay high prices for food products as if we are the management of internal stakeholders of a highly successful business. It is a chain that students need to break, to develop better conditions for the future. There are always solutions to problems. We need to figure out means of combating the greed of the profiteers.
It is of the utmost importance that the financial situation in our country, as well as the plight of the struggling masses, and here I include students, be considered.

Good and interesting topic Traviss. Thanks for raising the issue of students that have to pay so much for food and certain events that have to be attended, its simply ridiculous. Things have to be made as affordable as possible. We are students with minimal cash and most of us do not even have jobs. The institution needs to realise that fees is a huge expense and we cannot burden our parents with more expenses (especially big ones) during the year.
ReplyDeleteI thought you were maybe going to mention the media conference- Hehe!
ReplyDeleteBut lets look at it this way, we just have to survive this year as a student and next year we will be rolling in the "dough"- God willing. We will look back on our poor financial status as a stundent and laugh about it.
Students do tend to suffer financially only beacuse many of us find it hard to study full-time and have a part-time job or vice-versa.
