Conventional is a good fall back position

It is always good to be innovative, many a time people accept new ideas as it refreshes their view of a brand or product. Innovation also links products and brands closer to the feelings of people as well as the trends which they follow. Many times this does not last very long, and to ensure that people accepted the product, conventional means are the best option as they have proved to be successful for many years.

In the case conventional versus innovation, I think of VW Golf. The Golf body remains traditional, while the characteristics of the name and parts are improved and developed, to fit their target audience’s needs. Examples are, Citi Golf, Velocity, Sonic and Life, all these Golfs are millennium cars, with traditional bodies. This is interesting as they are still selling at large amounts as soon as they are released. Many other brands in the food industry produce various flavors to test responses. Once they evaluated, whether it is favorable or not, they either keep the idea and develop it more or move back to the traditional product which clients are most acquainted with.

Conventional is always good as people believe in products that have proved long service in their family and proven to work. We look at products such as sunlight dishwasher. Many people perceive this detergent as the best in its class and can not be substituted as their families used it for many years. This conventional brand is trusted. should they bring out an in innovational product and it does not work, the conventional product may be adopted again.
